Strategic Projects Team launched for Scotland
Guy Russell has joined property specialists Savills as Director of Strategic Projects based in Glasgow and Ayr. His team of eight provide advice to construction companies, utilities providers, insurance companies and landowners on a wide range of strategic projects throughout Scotland. Previously a Director of Bell Ingram Ltd, Guy has extensive experience of managing complex land-based projects from public access networks to cross-country pipelines and resolving conflicts across diverse interests including private landowners, commercial developers, conservation bodies, government agencies and national utilities. |

Sarah Baugh, MGF Solicitors - CLA appointment
A Midland solicitor has been elected to serve on a high profile advisory committee which helps shape government legislation affecting landowners, farmers and rural businesses. Sarah Baugh, partner and head of the rural and agricultural division at Telford-based MFG Solicitors, will this month begin a five-year term on the CLA’s (Country Landowner and Business Association) National Legal, Parliamentary and Property Rights Sub Committee. The rurally-focused group plays a pivotal role in studying draft bills and policy amendments whilst also acting as strategic government advisors on topics linked to the UK’s rural communities. |

Savills expert to advise National Trust 'MyFarm'
MyFarm is a massive online experiment in farming and food production which has been set up by the National Trust. Launched on 4th May 2011 the aim of the project is to reconnect people and food, and boost the public’s understanding of the realities of food and farming. The National Trust is looking for 10,000 MyFarm farmers in the first year of the project to help manage their organic farm at Wimpole in Cambridgeshire; giving the public a say in the running of a real working farm. The whole estate is 2500 acres; a mix of arable land, pasture, woodland, lakes and gardens. The arable farmland is coming to the end of organic conversion, and will start producing crops over the coming winter. |

Welsh farmers today raised their reservations about the difficulties they face in gaining entry to the Welsh Assembly Government's Glastir agri-environment scheme with Mr. Morgan Parry, the new chairman of the Countryside Council for Wales. Morgan Parry, who was appointed in March, told Farmers' Union of Wales land use committee members he was keen to learn from farmers and wanted to build on the good relations set by his predecessor. |

Film production company, Splash Media, is working on a project for a BBC series which intends to follow couples as they learn to cope with farm life. Asking the questions: 'are you sick of the rat race?. Wishing your life was more “good life” than “this life”? and think you can run your own business? - they are looking for 10 couples to take part in a new series which will really put their aptitude for farming to the test. Over six weeks the couples will learn how to run and manage their own farm; from animal husbandry and harvesting, to coping with the unpredictable British weather. |
