Planning overhaul call
The Government needs to overhaul the land use planning system to cope with future housing needs and the green agenda, its chief scientist has warned. According to PublicPropertyUK.com, the government’s chief scientist Professor John Beddington has warned that the current land use system – which dates back to the Second World War – is not fit for purpose.
 
Madonna buys land
Madonna has reportedly bought up farmland in order to extend her £6m New York state horse ranch. The Daily Express says that the singer has paid £1.25m for an extra 23 acres of land to indulge in her hobby. The star learn her love of land-ownership while married to film director Guy Ritchie in 2000. they lived together at Ashcombe in Dorset. After the marriage ended in 2008, the star returned to New York and purchased the Wild Ocean Farm in Bridgehampton.
 
Are you old money?
BBC2 is researching a new three-part documentary series called ‘Money’. Its aim is to explore attitudes towards money and to paint a portrait of spending habits in the 21st Century. It is interested in talking to people whose lifestyle is more modest than their surroundings and is especially keen to contact people who have substantial properties but are struggling with the upkeep. CKD Galbraith has expanded its forestry department in Inverness and Perth to reflect a growing demand for specialist forestry services. The firm is now handling more than £10m of grant applications, over the next 12 months, under the Scottish Rural Development Programme grant scheme.

 Stephen Fell MRICS  FRAgS, has been appointed as the new Chairman of LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming).   Stephen is Managing Director of the family farming business HR Fell and Sons Ltd, running a flock of 1000 sheep and growing root crops at Thorganby in the Vale of York. He is also Managing Director of Lindum Turf,  a business growing and marketing a range of turf and specialist grass and wildflower products.

 Ieuan Williams - new FC Wales land agent

A farmer’s son from Cardigan with a wealth of experience managing a London Borough’s rural estate has returned to Wales following his appointment as a Land Agent by Forestry Commission Wales. Born and raised on the family farm in Ferwig, just outside Cardigan Ieuan Williams has joined the Commission as Area Land Agent for its Llanymddyfri Forest District which extends from the coast of Pembrokeshire to the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire.
