Wood fibre cost fall
Wood fibre costs for the global pulp industry fell in the 2Q/10 after having increased for 18 months, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly
The global pulp industry benefited from lower wood fibre costs and higher product prices in the 2Q/10. Wood chip and pulpwood prices fell the most in the US, Sweden, Finland, Australia and Eastern Canada. Both the softwood and hardwood wood fiber price indices (SFPI and HFPI) fell for the first time since early 2009, according to the Wood Resource Quarterly.

Advantage West Midlands-backed Rural Regeneration Zone (RRZ) Annual Conference will focus on working together to deliver rural regeneration in a new era.  The high profile event, which is being held at Ludlow Racecourse on Friday 2nd July, will provide a unique opportunity to look at ways in which the Zone is helping drive forward the area’s emergence from the downturn and the opportunities/challenges that will no doubt arise from a new political landscape. Welsh farmers today raised their reservations about the difficulties they face in gaining entry to the Welsh Assembly Government's Glastir agri-environment scheme with Mr. Morgan Parry, the new chairman of the Countryside Council for Wales. Morgan Parry, who was appointed in March, told Farmers' Union of Wales land use committee members he was keen to learn from farmers and wanted to build on the good relations set by his predecessor.

TV company seeks couples to take on a farm PDF Print E-mail

Film production company, Splash Media, is working on a project for a BBC series which intends to follow couples as they learn to cope with farm life.  Asking the questions: 'are you sick of the rat race?. Wishing your life was more “good life” than “this life”? and think you can run your own business?  - they are looking for 10 couples to take part in a new series which will really put their aptitude for farming to the test. Over six weeks the couples will learn how to run and manage their own farm; from animal husbandry and harvesting, to coping with the unpredictable British weather.

CKD Galbraith has expanded its forestry department in Inverness and Perth to reflect a growing demand for specialist forestry services. The firm is now handling more than £10m of grant applications, over the next 12 months, under the Scottish Rural Development Programme grant scheme.
