FC Wales smooths passage to important woodland

With its fascinating historical features, enchanting scenery and strong links to the end of the last major ice age, i Parkwood on the Gower is a popular tourist location. Forestry Commission Wales has stepped in to ensure a smoother passage into this environmental jewel after the Welsh Government woodland became the victim of its own alluring beauty. The road allowing access to the site of special scientific interest (SSSI) was showing signs of serious wear and tear, with badly pot-holed areas testifying to Parkwood’s popularity.

Saffery Champness comment on CAP Reform announcement

Commenting on the announcement on CAP Reform by EU Farm Minister, Dacian Ciolos, Andrew Arnott, a partner of  Saffery Champness Landed Estates & Rural Business Group says: “There was not much in the announcement that had not already been leaked. However, it confirms the intention to distribute subsidies more evenly by way of a cap on payments to farmers at 300,000 euros (£261,240) per year.  A progressive levy, to be applied on all payments exceeding 150,000 euros (£130,620), was also announced as a proposal. Assuming that the proposals will be approved by both the EU parliament and all member states, this will be bad news for many large arable farmers and some medium scale farming businesses, including those in the uplands. It remains to be seen whether the ‘sustainable and inclusive growth’ for European agriculture can really be achieved through these proposals.  I think they could, as they stand, have the opposite effect, acting as a disincentive to invest for farm businesses that are highly-mechanised with lower staffing levels”.

Savills Energy at 2011 Game Fair

Savills Energy, will be sponsoring the Renewable Energy Area and launching their own Energy Audit, at the CLA Game Fair, Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire 22nd – 24th July. The Game Fair’s Renewable Energy Area is an addition to the Land Management area which will hopefully prove of interest for anyone who lives and works in the countryside. It will promote all renewable technologies that are now so important to the countryside. Information on wind turbines, bio-mass boilers, solar power and ground source heat pumps will be available from all types of exhibitors.

Savills has been operating in the Energy market since the mid 1990’s and currently have 54 energy specialists across the UK. The Savills Energy Audit will provide our rural clients with a three-stage approach to delivering a renewable energy project from initial appraisal and technology selection to detailed viability assessment and the project development. Farmers and landowners are in a unique position in that they are able to provide resources for many of the renewable technologies, principally land and feedstocks such as wood and waste. The right renewable technology in the right location can not only save money but also generate an additional income stream.

Savills Energy is delighted to be able to sponsor the Renewable Energy Area. Nick Green, Savills Energy adds: “The opportunity for rural businesses to generate energy and income from renewable sources has never been greater. At Savills we are well placed to assist clients throughout the whole process. The addition of the renewable energy area at the CLA Game Fair offers a fantastic opportunity for those who live and work in the countryside to speak to suppliers and consultants and find out more about the opportunities that exist”
