Wood fibre cost fall
Wood fibre costs for the global pulp industry fell in the 2Q/10 after having increased for 18 months, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly
The global pulp industry benefited from lower wood fibre costs and higher product prices in the 2Q/10. Wood chip and pulpwood prices fell the most in the US, Sweden, Finland, Australia and Eastern Canada. Both the softwood and hardwood wood fiber price indices (SFPI and HFPI) fell for the first time since early 2009, according to the Wood Resource Quarterly.

Values of equipped farms have risen for the first time in over a year – with the average value in England rising 4% to £7,300 compared with July to September. However, they are still about 10% lower than a year ago, says Dr Jason Beedell, head of research at Smiths Gore.

Crops at Fenrother, Nothumberland

George F White has announced the sale of a substantial piece of prime arable land at Fenrother, near Morpeth in Northumberland.  The 166.84 acres, with a Natural Shelter Belt, has excellent access to the A1 ad A697 and an existing agricultural building. Previously used for root and vegetable crops, it is currently divided into seven fields of varying size. The land is being be sold by private treaty with a guide price of £850,000.

Sellafield site that sold

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has sold an area of land comprising 190 ha (470 acres) lying to the north of the existing site at Sellafield in Cumbria for a value of at least £70m. The winning consortium comprises Iberdrola S.A, GdF Suez S.A and Scottish and Southern Energy plc.
