More deer needed to keep venison on the plate
The Scottish Venison Partnership has announced this week that if things don't change Scotland will lose out as the lucrative venison market grows, and that the country needs up to 500 more deer farms to cope with an ever increasing demand for this popular food product. The Group, which represents Scotland's venison industry, is also about to commission a study into the feasibility of large scale venison parks in an attempt to address the shortage of home produced venison, and is advocating the promotion of roe venison, in addition to the more traditional red deer venison, to boost supply. |

Tribunal tax case - helpful to shooting syndicates
In the recent First Tier Tax Tribunal case of Edward Harrison v HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), it was held that the running of two shooting syndicates fell outside the scope of VAT. This case will provide valuable assistance to the shooting community, as it deals with the common situation where a landowner grants shooting rights to a syndicate in return for the provision of a number of days of shooting. Douglas Gordon - Saffery Champness
The income from game shooting, which has been estimated to contribute more than £1.6 billion to the UK’s rural economy, has not gone unnoticed by HM Revenue & Customs. Consequently, VAT on shooting has developed into a major issue and, in some cases, a major liability for those who own and manage shoots. For those attending the CLA Game Fair and perhaps on whom HM Revenue & Customs have focussed their attention, expertise is on hand on Friday 23rd July at the GunsOnPegs stand at the Game Fair being held this year at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire. |
