Wood fibre cost fall
Wood fibre costs for the global pulp industry fell in the 2Q/10 after having increased for 18 months, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly
The global pulp industry benefited from lower wood fibre costs and higher product prices in the 2Q/10. Wood chip and pulpwood prices fell the most in the US, Sweden, Finland, Australia and Eastern Canada. Both the softwood and hardwood wood fiber price indices (SFPI and HFPI) fell for the first time since early 2009, according to the Wood Resource Quarterly.

The black grouse, is winning further support for its survival through a newly formed alliance of Deeside estates. The National Trust for Scotland’s Mar Lodge Estate, along with the Balmoral and Glen Tanar Estates aims to collaboratively monitor black grouse populations at their territorial lek sites in mid and upper Deeside.

Statistics released by The Scottish Forest Alliance, the woodland creation project uniting BP, Forestry Commission Scotland, the Woodland Trust Scotland, and RSPB Scotland, show that the equivalent of 1,059 new native trees have been planted every day for the past nine years and an area of new native woodland - one-and-a-half times the size of Inverness - has been created.
