Wood fibre cost fall
Wood fibre costs for the global pulp industry fell in the 2Q/10 after having increased for 18 months, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly
The global pulp industry benefited from lower wood fibre costs and higher product prices in the 2Q/10. Wood chip and pulpwood prices fell the most in the US, Sweden, Finland, Australia and Eastern Canada. Both the softwood and hardwood wood fiber price indices (SFPI and HFPI) fell for the first time since early 2009, according to the Wood Resource Quarterly.

CKD Galbraith has expanded its forestry department in Inverness and Perth to reflect a growing demand for specialist forestry services. The firm is now handling more than £10m of grant applications, over the next 12 months, under the Scottish Rural Development Programme grant scheme.

George F White has announced the opening of a new office in East Yorkshire. This comes as part of the firm's expansion plans and goes against the grain of the current recession and the shrinking economy. Located at Shiptonthorpe, East Yorkshire, this is the second office that the company has opened within the last twelve months.   The office will be headed up by Louis Fell who has recently been made Partner.   Louis who was born and brought up on the family farm near Thorgumby who has been working in the company’s Alnwick Office is returning to his roots and to the area that he grew up in.
